House committee chairman on sports Honourable Godfrey Gaiya Ali has disagreed with the sports ministry on their proposed 2.4 billion Naira request for the London Olympic game. The Sports ministry’s director-general, Patrick Ekeji, is still being probed by the house committee on sports over alleged misappropriation of the 2010 and 2011 budget.
In a chat with brilafm.net, Gaiya said spending 2.4 billion Naira strictly on the Olympics may not be in the overall interest of sports development, while pointing that his committee will deliberate on the matter and come out with the best decision in the interest of the nation.
“...the truth is that spending 2.3billion on the forthcoming Olympics may not be in the best interest of sports in the country”
“The committee as decided to see how the funds available right now can be used to address the Olympics, sports federations, zonal offices and other areas monies should be allotted to so that people can feel the impact”
