OSONDU NGWUDE

OSONDU NGWUDE
"The Don"
Brila FM Kaduna

Witty and freewheeling fellow, Osondu Ngwude looks the most carefree presenter of the station, but for those who know him, the hard-nosed reporter is a goal-getter; committing time and valuable experience acquired during nine unbridled years of sports broadcasting to investigative and reportorial duties at the fm.

The Isikwuato, Abia State native was born in Jos, Plateau State and is renowned for, among other things, his sound knowledge of the local soccer scene as well as his local intelligence in other sports such as basketball, athletics etc, at the grassroots level.

OSONDU NGWUDE:
“Sports transcends the action on the field, track or domes; it also involves the coaches, referees, umpires, spectators etc  and the onus is on a sports reporter to touch all corners”.

Actually, my interest cuts across a lot of life’s different issues but I must confess sports has a different kind of attraction for me, and whether you are producing or broadcasting, you are sure to have fun and get a whole lot of people entertained and educated.

CHIBEZE NWABUOGOR JOY

CHIBEZE NWABUOGOR JOY
"D Hottest"
 Brila FM Abuja

Joy doesn’t have to crane her neck to find a role model in mould of a woman presenting sports as she already has one in Oge, co-presenter at the sports radio. She claims the latter has actually influenced her a lot.

The aspiring ‘air-girl’ (majored in Standard Aviation & Maritime Studies) says broadcasting has always been a flair. She gave free rein to her passions and allowed the broadcaster in her to overwhelm her core training in Aviation and Maritime and thus booked her place as a presenter on 88.9 Brila Fm.

JOY:

“Brila fm has given me an opportunity to put smile on people’s faces, which I consider my greatest achievement so far.”

COLE ALEXANDER OLUWATOPE

ANTHONY BEKEDEREMO:
“My passion for sports, particularly football, dates back to the early 90s. I followed the Italia 90 and USA 94 World Cups as a boy. I had a scrap book where I kept the names and stories of my favourite stars. Little did I know I was introducing myself to journalism”

VICTOR OKHANI

VICTOR OKHANI
The Volcano
Brila Fm, Kaduna

Victor is not your stereotype broadcaster. His unconventional, dark, good looks and chiseled frame gives him off as movie star rather than a micro-phone freak.

Blessed with an enormous energy and gifted with a sweet voice, Victor is very charismatic, affecting everyone around him with his inspirational aura and never-give-up attitude. The University of Benin graduate of English and Literature calls himself “a loyal, exciting and special foot soldier of sports fans.”

Sports fans in Kaduna enjoy his stewardship of Sunset Sports Show and the dial never changes when Victor is on his seat.

No.

VICTOR: The mic is my super-bowl; I always come to it hungry because it is the only place I can get filled and satisfied. On the 88.9 daily, I am ahead of the game against Usain Bolt who holds the world record of 9.58. Weird on the Mic and always off the wall like a deflected free-kick.

God this guy has got the thrills.

MURPHY IKECHUKWU AZIE IJEMBA

MURPHY IKECHUKWU AZIE IJEMBA
Radio Paparazi, The Son of CAF, The Grandson of FIFA

The simple word that summarizes Murphy Ijemba’s personality is flamboyance. His name and surname combined is 25 letters-long and he has the longest nickname in the whole of the station – “Radio Paparazi, The Son of CAF, The Grandson of FIFA.”

CHRIS OGUGUO

Brila FM, Kaduna

If there is a meeting point between a sporty physique and a good knowledge of sports, then it is  located in the person of Chris Oguguo. Alarmingly calm for his burly and intimidating frame, Chris is a gifted newsman, capable of spotting explosive stories miles away.

A former player of the now defunct Julius Berger football club, Chris once got a call up to the U-17 national team Cup but injuries did him in. With a pocket of experience in sports broadcasting across television and radio stations, Chris’ confidence is always in play, inspite of the deceptively-introverted mien.

CHRIS: "I consider myself a thorough bred sports man having spent almost all my life doing, writing and talking sports. I remember when I was much younger, I never really had savings like other of my peers because I always spent all my money on sports related issues; either buying a football boot, or buying sports publication or even paying my way to watch football games, much to the anger of my late mom, whom I must say was very instrumental to me being what I am today."

Now, that’s touching.

DORCAS ATINUKE GBIJAH
(Dorcas D Duchess)

Brila FM, Lagos

Dorcas’ calm mien is actually a very effective mask for the talented lady within. A speechless encounter with her will give an impression of a meek young woman but the first word out of her mouth will reveal her true nature as someone created only to broadcast. A thorough professional.

She arrived at the sports radio with a shipload of experience, having worked with well-known radio stations where she developed and honed her broadcasting skills. But Dorcas, a Mass Communication graduate of University of Jos confesses that Brila FM is a completely different kettle of fish. She relishes the challenge though.

Dorcas anchors Sunday Sports Show, 5am-12noon and co-anchors Half Time Mondays to Fridays @ 8.30am on the super morning show with George Essien.
